Culture Vulture: How Drake Adapted Burna Boy’s Work Without Giving Credit

Burna Boy

Some days ago ‘Afro-fusionist’ Burna Boy held a private listening for his third studio album titled ‘Outside‘.
Besides treating friends and supporters to some music at his album listening session, Burna Boy dived in on some stories about him that led to the ‘Outside’ album.
One that grabbed attention was about his well publicized meeting with Drake in London. It turns out that Burna Boy was recruited by Drake to work on ‘More Life‘.
As narrated by Burna Boy,  he had made his own contribution for the project,  “I worked on 5 new songs for the project, and submitted them all.”
Before the official release of Drake’s ‘More Life’ he (Burna Boy) was notified that one of his songs of the same title would be used. However, what was taken from the singer’s work was a bastardized version it was chopped so much it deviated too far from the original.
“They told me they had picked it, but when the song came out it was…chopped..” Burna Boy said.
Worst still no credits to Burna Boy on Drake’s ‘More Life’ playlist.
This is not the first time the Canadian rapper has been a culture vulture, Drake has done same thing to Wizkid where his verse on Billboard Number One hit song ‘One Dance’ was reduced to what seemed like a WhatsApp voice note.
Despite the unfair treatment meted out to Burna Boy, the singer has not let it get under his skin. He has repurposed ‘More Life’ for his album ‘Outside’.
