4 Years Plus No Album; Tekno Should Not Overstretch His Luck

By this time last year Tekno by all standards was nothing less than a music demi-god in the Nigerian music landscape. He actually rejected the highly esteemed Headies Awards for being considered as a “Next Rated” music act in 2016. However, fast forward to the present day the “Pana” hit maker has done very little in the current year to uphold the standard he set for himself. He is yet to put out a song which is half as effectual as “Pana”.

Augustine Miles Kelechi whose moniker Tekno is better recognized made his official debut into the Nigerian music ambience as at 2013. He was then signed to Kay Money Entertainment where he delivered two singles. His debut work was “Holiday” which featured DMW boss Davido and subsequently “Oyenekwu” a remix of Ice Prince’s evergreen song “Oleku“.

The journey and the rise

It wasn’t quite long before the Bauchi born singer dumped his then record label Kay Money Entertainment to get signed to Ubi Franklin’s Made Men Music Group. The aftermath of the switch was all good for Tekno even as he got even more traction with his music with very decent singles like “Dance”,  “Anything”, etc.

The big break for the light skinned music star came in 2015 when he blessed music fans with his continental hit track “Duro”. And other remarkable tracks like “Wash”, “Where” followed to further cement his standing in the competition stifled industry.   2016 was undoubtedly a Tekno kind of year were the singer’s “Pana” wrecked so much damage on the African airwaves, he had about the biggest jam in the continent with decent international penetration. Steadily Tekno has worked his way to becoming one of the hottest and in demand artistes in Africa. Let’s not hurriedly forget he signed a deal international music imprint Sony Music.

His career suffers a major drawback

Despite all the success Tekno currently enjoys as an artiste, he is still missing a very integral bit of his career jigsaw. Like you would have already guessed right, can you even imagine an artiste of his caliber doesn’t have a musical body of work to his name.

In a music industry like us,  where little or no attention is paid to full body work like EPs, LPs and other compilation. One might not see the use of chasing an album project, you would rather focus on creating hit singles.

However,  making and releasing albums should be done for the elevation of culture and posterity sake. Hence it is an all important affair that the TripleMG golden boy delivers a debut album. It is long over due. Four years plus and no album to his name; Tekno maybe over stretching his luck and good run.

Many  artistes who popped up within the past three years have gone ahead to release EPs, Mixtapes and Albums as the case may be but our dear Tekno has none.

Somewhere towards the end of last year would have been more likely one of the best periods to have an album from Tekno. The singer missed the chance to pleasure his proliferating fans with a solid body of music compilation. The “Pana” crooner has in the past 15 months tickled the fancy of music heads with news of an impending debut album. Alas, the singer and music producer has failed to come through with such a sensitive promise.

A certain wise man opined that “Luck has a way of evaporating when you lean on it.”  The dynamics of the Nigerian music industry changes faster than anyone could imagine and unfortunately Tekno has been struggling to keep up.  It’s about time the singer focused more on birthing his debut album which he hinted would be titled “Teenage Dreams“. It would take a bit more than luck to do this.

Probably when Tekno delivers a debut album would he truly be seen as a complete artiste.
